Goats & Garden for Food Security
With markets unstable, the elders prioritized goats, chickens, and a maize garden so the children could learn stewardship while keeping food on the table.
Randy and Pastor Brian mapped out the first sustainability plan over Messenger: start with goats and a test plot, track expenses, and report yields like a small farm co-op. Donors didn't just wire money—they asked for business plans, and Brian was eager to deliver.
Within weeks, two goats grazed behind the dormitories and the children rotated chores that doubled as agricultural training. That rhythm continued into 2025 when Brian documented how high-yield seed, fertilizer, and sixth-week pesticide applications protected the new garden from the pests that previously wiped them out, resulting in a 700-kilogram maize harvest they could store for nearly a year.
Elders eventually exchanged the goats for a dairy cow (which unfortunately did not thrive), and then later added two more vetted cows so milk, manure, and future calves would keep strengthening the food supply.
Stewardship snapshot
- Funds first arrive in FFH's U.S. account.
- They are then transferred to Stanbic Bank in Uganda via SWIFT wire.
- Truth Restoration Church elders review and prioritize the children’s needs.
- Once the needs are identified, they are submitted to FFH for approval.
- After approval, the agreed-upon items are purchased, and receipts and photos of each purchase are sent back to FFH.
